Very expensive. The design isn't great either. It is a coloured coin, which are easy to produce. They also lack detail that you would find in non-coloured coins. These coloured coins look very attarctive on the website, but in reality they do not look that unique or nice. I have a bunch of coloured coins from Perth Mint and they all look the same. RCM may be turning into a Perth Mint, if they do not do some serious introspection. Coloured coins are often disliked by numisatists.

I consider the Wild Rose (2011) coin to be 2nd of unofficial series with the Water Lily (2010) coin as the 1st. Some customers do not understand the purpose of the crystals on the rose. The crystals are actually droplets of morning dew glitter on the rose, therefore they cannot be larger or they will not look like droplets.

I think of myself as a coin collector who simply likes and collects beautiful coins from around the world. I usually avoid coins that have strong themes (e.g. based on historical events, on sports celebrities etc) because it is usually hard for me to identify with them. As such, this coin fulfills my criteria and it is certainly a good addition to my collection (Note: I have the Water Lily 2010 coin too). I hope RCM can continue to come up with another flower coin for year 2012 that has the same low mintage *emphasis*, casing and # of crystals.

Since the Wild Rose is Alberta's provincial flower, I purchased several of these coins to give as special gifts. It would be wonderful if the RCM would continue this and develop a collection of provincial flower coins!
