Comments about Royal Canadian Mint Gold Maple Leaf Set - 5th Anniversary of the Million Dollar Coin (2012):

Beautiful coins of the best quality. I like them so much. The box of light wood is an eye-catcher, in contrast to the photo. An excellent investment, a typical collector´s item.

Comments about Royal Canadian Mint Gold Maple Leaf Set - 5th Anniversary of the Million Dollar Coin (2012):

This is a beautiful set, struck with the same legendary RCM quality as the original .99999 100-kilo gold coin. I'm certain that if I had NGC or PCGS grade my set, each coin would be a PF-70. The packaging is also excellent and similar to the 2011 set. Hopefully, this will become an RCM standard for sets of this type/price.

As one of only 750 sets, I'm sure this will appreciate nicely over time, although mine is not for sale at any price.

I rated this 4-stars instead of five because of the set's value proposition. It contains a total of 1.44 troy oz. (1.0, 0.25, 0.10, 0.05 and 0.04 oz. coins) of gold. The US Mint's Proof Gold American Eagle set contains 1.85 oz of gold (1.0, 0.50, 0.25 and 0.10 oz coins). The latter sold in 2011 for ~ $700 LESS than the price of the RCM's 2012 set, based on gold at $1625/oz.

Simply put, it's VERY EXPENSIVE relative to similar sets struck by the US Mint, Perth or Royal Australian Mint. It lacks the 0.50 oz coin and instead has a large, plastic capsule at the far right of the box, but a miniscule 1/25 oz. gold coin. I appreciate that the RCM needs to cover its costs, that the set has very limited mintage relative to the USM's AGE set, etc., but even allowing for this, the set is uncompetitive relative to other offerings.

How about eliminating the 1/20 and 1/25 oz. coins, restoring the 0.50 oz coin and pricing it more competitively? It would reflect the same denominations as the Gold Maple Leaf bullion coins, and offer collectors a better value than the current offering.

I would definitely recommend this as a NUMISMATIST to fellow collectors, but I can't say that it's an excellent value, which is too bad.

Comments about Royal Canadian Mint Gold Maple Leaf Set - 5th Anniversary of the Million Dollar Coin (2012):

Why are the gold coins in the box different from the designs shown separately? I would be very dissapointed if I didn't receive the rendition from the 1 million $ coin on the smaller denominations rather than just a regular maple leaf.

What a great set for the invester with only 750 sets worldwide I would pay [$] just for the 1oz coin the rest are a bargain you are buying rarity not the gold content only the lucky few will ever have a chance to see this fantastic set myself I purchase 3 sets wish I had enough to purchase all of them. Good luck to all.

Comments about Royal Canadian Mint Gold Maple Leaf Set - 5th Anniversary of the Million Dollar Coin (2012):

These coins are simply beautiful but the value just isn't there. You're paying way too much for the amount of gold you're receiving, not a good investment at all.
