Comments about Royal Canadian Mint 5-Oz Gold Coin - 75th Anniversary of the First Bank Notes (2010):
This detailed 5oz gold proof is truly a work of art! The stunning Goddess of Fertility Vignette stands out and wows you over and over again. The graphic art representation of the coin on the RCM website does not do it any justice although it is a bit misleading because the actual coin has a plain edge instead of a serrated edge. The RCM did change the description of the edge from serrated to plain during the latter months of 2010 though. After I purchased this coin and discovered that the edge was plain, I was very disappointed and even lost a little sleep over it wondering whether it was genuine or not. The coin also came with two faint clamp mark impressions on the rim. One mark is located just below the edge opposite the letter "O" in the word "DOLLARS", and the other mark is located just below the edge opposite the fourth letter "A" in the word "CANADA". I also purchased all of the silver proofs in the Banknotes series which are fine and do have serrated edges. Although this 5oz gold proof that I purchased is not perfect, its overall beauty outshines the little imperfections that exist on it. I don't plan on parting with it anytime soon! Nah nah...
Behlod The Gold!

Comments about Royal Canadian Mint 5-Oz Gold Coin - 75th Anniversary of the First Bank Notes (2010):
When I first saw this coin, I thought it was truely spectacular. Upon further observation it became very disapointing for me, to see that the RCM did not finish the coin edging with a serrated edge but instead chose to finish it with a plain edge that is scratched and looks terrible. The upper area above the 500 dollars appears to be a miss, like the die didn't properly imprint. For a coin this beautiful, expensive and of such low mintage, I expect a much better effort from the mint regarding quality control.

Comments about Royal Canadian Mint 5-Oz Gold Coin - 75th Anniversary of the First Bank Notes (2010):
This is a beautiful coin. Its large size allows for an intricate, detailed depiction of the $500 banknote design, which itself was a 1930s potrayal of a classic allegory, in this case, commerce. The workmanship, attention to detail and quality of this coin are outstanding.I also own the gold $500 "Look of the Games Coin" and am also very please with it. For numismatists interested in very limited edition, proof coins, both are excellent investments. The RCM's 5-ounce silver coins are also excellent investments.I suggest that anyone considering the $500 Bank of Canada/Bank Note coin also purchase the 5 ounce silver and the $10 and $20 coins. They'll make a great collection.

Comments about Royal Canadian Mint 5-Oz Gold Coin - 75th Anniversary of the First Bank Notes (2010):
Admittedly, my first 5 ounce piece. Largest previous, the lovely Mexico 50 Peso piece at 1.2 troy ounces. This piece, while expensive, is stunning to behold. Given the proof striking, there are at least three breathtaking tones to the gold image. I consider myself fortunate to own one of the two hundred to be minted; and despite the premium am deliberating the purchase of a second. I should like to think this piece will follow tradition and sell out. A superb coin.
